Emulation in Preview inconsistent, Preview 2.0 Not working for Android

The Android emulation does not load the home screen web view (tried more than one device), but the iOS emulator does show the home screen.

Whereas, in the regular preview, both show the home screen. However, there are very limited options to select for devices. When will this be fixed?

Lastly, and this is maybe more complicated to explain…but for Android, the image specifications state that the screen captures must be 1080 to be eligible for promotion. But the Preview 2.0 screen captures don’t have sufficient resolution to achieve that size without losing quality.

However, the original preview (Android) does show the home screen. And the screen capture images are 1080 px x 2280 px offering enough resolution and quality for display. But again, very limited options over on the Preview 1.0 side of things. :frowning:

IT really would be nice to get this all working AMS team…frustrating that one has to bounce around between all these options to get things to work and/or see the devices we want.

Hi @milkrow

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing such detailed feedback regarding your experience with the Android and iOS emulators in Preview 2.0. We completely understand how frustrating it must be to switch between various options to achieve the desired functionality and output.

To address your concerns:

  1. Android Emulator Home Screen Issue
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the Android emulator not loading the home screen web view while the iOS emulator functions as expected. We are aware of this issue, and I assure you that our team is actively working to resolve it as Preview 2.0 is currently in its BETA stage.

  2. Limited Device Options in Preview Modes
We understand how important it is to test apps across a variety of devices and screen sizes. Your feedback regarding the limited options in both Preview 1.0 and 2.0 is invaluable, and we’ll notify our development team to prioritize improvements in this area.

  3. Screen Capture Quality for Android
Your observation about the resolution discrepancy in Preview 2.0 screen captures is valid. Ensuring compliance with Android’s promotional requirements is essential, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We’ll work on enhancing the resolution output in Preview 2.0 to match or exceed the standard set by Preview 1.0.

We truly value your patience and input, as it helps us improve the platform for everyone. Please know that your concerns are being taken seriously, and we will strive to address these issues as quickly as possible.

If there’s anything else you’d like to share or need assistance with, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help and ensure you have the best experience with AppMySite.

Thank you again for your understanding and for being part of our journey as we work to make Preview 2.0 better for you.

Thank you for your reply. I have some follow up thoughts:

  1. Android Emulator Home Screen Issue
So, basically, Preview 2.0 for Android does not work.

A CORE function of AMS is to allow for webpages to be viewed through the interface of the app. SHOULD Preview 2.0 attempt to provide additional features if it cannot perform its CORE functions?

If the INABILITY of 2.0 to show the home screen is KNOWN, then please make that clear to the user through the interface so they aren’t loading/refreshing and otherwise growing frustrated with the tool while it FAILS to perform its CORE functions.

Could you provide (e.g., outside the preview frame) a link to the ROADMAP and/or a link to KNOWN ISSUES and otherwise make it an environment where users can easily access/navigate to solutions?

Currently, the user just sees a broken interface with no explanation and no way to understand the issue…only to find out a broken tool has been made available so that all may fail. Do you think that is helpful?

  1. Limited Device Options in Preview Modes
If you could fix the Android home screen issue, and bump up the screen capture to no less than 1080 px per side…then the device options available in Preview 2.0 would be of greater value.

  2. Screen Capture Quality for Android
    (see above)…and…
The devices available in Preview 2.0 via the pull-down menu are an improvement over 1.0. However, might be helpful to know which widths/depths each device may be, for example “Google Pixel 8 (448 x 971)”. (Forgive me if those aren’t the right dimensions, but you get the point?)

The redraw/refresh rate on switching between devices is rather slow. Perhaps there are articles to learn how to improve this…or is this another known issue?

Thank you.

@milkrow There are many other ways to achieve what you have requested, both paid and free options. Might take a bit of an effort, but nevertheless, it can be done without Preview 1.0 or Preview 2.0 or whichever preview offering by the team.
